А.Г. Гурвич в 1912 году первым ввёл в биологию понятие „поле“. Развитие концепции биологического поля было основной темой его творчества и длилось не одно десятилетие. За это время воззрения Гурвича на природу биологического поля претерпели глубокие изменения, однако всегда речь шла о поле как о едином факторе, определяющем направленность и упорядоченность биологических процессов.
Излишне говорить о том, какая печальная судьба ожидала эту концепцию в последующие полвека. Появилось множество спекуляций, авторы которых утверждали, что постигли физическую природу так называемого „биополя“, кто-то тут же брался лечить людей. Некоторые ссылались на А.Г. Гурвича, нимало не утруждая себя попытками вникнуть в смысл его работ. Большинство о Гурвиче не знали и, к счастью, не ссылались, поскольку ни к самому термину „биополе“, ни к разного рода объяснениям его действия А.Г. Гурвич отношения не имеет. Тем не менее сегодня слова „биологическое поле“ вызывают нескрываемый скепсис у образованных собеседников. Одна из целей данной статьи - рассказать читателям „Химии и жизни“ настоящую историю идеи биологического поля в науке.

Biophotonics Group
The major aim of our research is to reveal the role of electron excitation of molecular constituents of living matter in regulation and coordination of biochemical and physiological processes proceeding in living systems. Our major hypothesis is that the processes with the participation of oxygen free radicals that emerge and proceed in aqueous milieu of a living system continuously generate electron excited states in the system. This high energy density energy does not readily dissipate in heat in aqueous milieu, and it plays fundamental bio-energetic and bio-informational role in the emergence and realization of vital processes.

To evaluate this hypothesis quite a few diverse but interrelated research projects are carried out in our group. Some fundamental research studies had yielded results that have already started to be applied for solving certain medical and ecological problems in collaboration with specialists in these particular fields.

Tree of Life Web Project
is a collaborative effort of biologists from around the world. On more than 4000 World Wide Web pages, the project provides information about the diversity of organisms on Earth, their evolutionary history (phylogeny), and characteristics.
Each page contains information about a particular group of organisms. ToL pages are linked one to another hierarchically, in the form of the evolutionary tree of life. Starting with the root of all Life on Earth and moving out along diverging branches to individual species, the structure of the ToL project thus illustrates the genetic connections between all living things.

Christof Koch has recently written an extremely accessible book, The Quest for Consciousness: a Neurobiological Approach. It summarizes in a clear way the main known biological facts that seem particularly pertinent to the mind-brain problem, along with an attempt to understand these facts within the framework that he has been developing in collaboration with Francis Crick. This theoretical framework, although only one of many being pursued at present, is probably as close to main-line neurobiology as any. This article contrasts Koch’s way of accounting for certain time-related psycho-neurobiological data with a physics-based understanding of these data.
